UPDATE: Hmong Assistance/Resettlement Programs
UPDATE: More than 100,000 Hmong have been relocated to the US. One example, the Special Advisory Hmong Resettlement Task Force which began work July 21, 2004, steered over 15,000 Hmong from Thailand to Wisconsin and provided transitional assistance. Many remain trapped in the LPDR but it's important to point out that we have, in fact, made attempts to help the Hmong. The relocation efforts have been frought with problems. One great eye-opening resource is the U.S. Department of Education, Institute of Education Sciences, research project and subsequent report "ED219471 - The State of Hmong Resettlement and Possible Approaches to Solve Some of Its Problems."
We may have fallen short in some regards but we haven't turned a blind eye. I'm sure many of you on this site can understand and appreciate the difficulties of extracting nomads from foreign soil, both politically and logistically. While I don't have all the answers, I also know that we deserve a lot more credit than we generally get on this subject.
Just my two cents worth. I'll brace myself for the bombardment that's sure to follow this post.
