I'm struggling with the logic of some of the arguments presented here and the implication that because a company - for unknown reason(s) - chose to not blatantly market a patriotic holiday like so many other businesses do - their perceived slight means they are {insert outrage of choice}.
The LA Times article is enlightening - especially the final paragraph.
