We had a poem that loses some of its translation from German to English . If you'll indulge me:
Wenn Einer von uns müde wird, der Andere für ihn wacht
"When one of us is tired, the other takes his watch"
Wenn Einer von uns zweifeln will, der Andere glaübig lacht
"When one of us has fear, the other laughs for both"
Wenn Einer von uns fallen sollt, der Andere steht für zwei
"When one of us should fall, the other stands for two"
Denn jedem Kämpfer gibt ein Gott den Kameraden bei.
"For God gives every warrior a comrade"
This emblazoned our coffee cups, team rooms, and other paraphenalia. It was something we all took to heart and lived by.
