Funny, do people actually think the bad guys are going to just turn in their weapons?
In the wake of the Ft Hood shootings my best friend and I got into a pretty heated argument. Her point of view was that if there was a weapons ban, he never would have gotten a gun. My view was that if one of the personnel inside the building had one, maybe the carnage wouldn't have been so bad.
She said he never should have had one in the first place. I said the time honored "guns don't kill people, people kill people" and told her if she wanted to do some research on the subject I would be happy to come back and talk to her about it. To which I asked her to look into what has happened in the UK and Australia, when citizens were forced to turn in their private weapons.
To her credit, she is doing some reading up on the subject and we will get back to our discussion at a later date, if she wishes.
Best thing about it was my kids were in the room when the discussion took place. Afterwords they asked some questions, and I think understand why I feel the way I do.
