Well Fla did exactly what I expected those mealy mouthed DCF people to do... The girl will be returned to Ohio. Immagration status to be checked and both parents and kid must undergo a pyschiatric evaluation and treated if deemed necessary. What a gianormous load of crap! DCF is under a mandate to restore families after some crap they did yrs and yrs back. So them "reuniting" this young woman and her parents is no suprise here.
I would suspect that Fla deemed the girl an Ohio resident not a Fla resident. IN Fla, under Fla law she is or can be treated as an adult at 17. In Fla, she might have rights that she would not in Ohio. I do know at that age, in Fla as a resident, she has the right to sue for emanicipation. I guess her gaurdian ad litem was not worth a crap and did not really fight for her. Most judges in Fla, that is to say 9.5 out of 10 will believe any lie that DCF tells them. That judges order is pretty standard for DCF. It is thier way of writing off the whole thing.. Parenting classe and a psych eval is Fla DCF sop. Those people think everyone is crazy ya know...
My take, no one took the dads passport. So..............Daddy will take the kid, the minute he gets her back, to Sri Lanka where she will either die or be married off to someone who will either beat her into submission or kill her himself. How any mother can facilitate this travesty is beyond my ken. DCF (fla) has again proven how useless they truly are.
I suspect this is more about christianity and islam than parents. Some christians is out there trying to convert on facebook. IF the christians had any real care for the kid, they would have helped her stay hidden until she turned 18 and was out of her parents control. IF her gaurdian ad litem was worth a crap, that person would have fought tooth and nail for her. Neither apparently, it appears, did much to help the kid. For what it is worth, I am quite certian that DCF threatened the Lorenzes with jail. DCF, in all states, is very good at making threats that would have anyone else tossed in jail. They get away with it because they are DCF.
My heart and prayers are with that child.
For the record, before I get myself bounced here. I am and have always been on the same page with WM and the other QPs here with regards to Islam. I do have some more pragmantic views of religion in general having grown up RC in a Southern Baptist south. It gives one a very unique perspective on the whole deal.
