IIRC, the first SF soldiers wore green berets as a stunt to get JFK's attention on a visit to Fort Bragg. They picked green berets because they thought the Royal Marines looked cool. No-one was more surprised than they when Kennedy made it their trademark.

Good to know I spent almost two years working my butt off to earn a "stunt" that looked cool.

Somewhere a True Believer is training to kill you. He is training with minimal food or water, in austere conditions, training day and night.
