I faired better on Oki after a Typhoon. We’d re-canvassed the vehicles but my jeep, including the mirrors and windows, was covered with mud. After breakfast I was stopped at the main gate and told to go back to the OR and raise the flag. I backed out of the gate and onto the hood of a POV Toyota sports car owned by one of the cooks.
Top said that I could pay for the damage to the POV (none to the jeep) or take an Art. 15 and the Army would pick up the tab. I took the 15. My punishment was cleaning up the debris on our beach.
When I was walking down to the beach carrying my rakes, a Marine driving a tractor with a rake attachment stopped me and asked how far the beach went. There was a large rock that separated our beach from Camp Schwab’s. I told him it went past that rock.
An hour later I reported to Top that the beach was clean.
