I just finished a "Canticle for Liebowitz" by Warren M. Miller Jr.
This is of the "On the Beach" and "Alas Babylon" genre of late 50s early 60s post atomic war apocalypse.
It is very well written. The guy was a true wordsmith. A dictionary is very useful

. It is interesting in that the story covers centuries with individual stories all linked together by a monastery in Utah.
