Well I thought it was time to introduce myself.

My name is AL Elks, I join the army right out of High school and went straight into Special Forces. Yep, I was an SF Baby. Those were the good old days too. We had plenty of Vietnam vets and those guys made GREAT Team Sergeants. I was a PFC on the team holding down an E7 slot. I spent my first years in 5th SFG (ODA 584) until 1987 which is when I took a 1 year hardship tour to Somali where I served on an Infantry TAFT.

After that I escaped 5th SFG (during this time frame 7th SFG was where the fun was). Anyway with a VERY strong Arabic language background I moved over to A/1/7 (ODA 712 which was the mule team at that time). I spent a few years on 712 and was fortunate enough to attend ASOT training.

The SWC monster grabbed me and they were about to pull me to one of the Phase committees. The ASOT Detachment found out I was getting ready to get pulled so they snatched me up. I spent 4 years teaching ASOT and then got nailed at the TMC when I went to get some meds for a bad back and they threw me on a P3 profile (took me off jump status).

SWC took care of me and pulled me up to 2nd Bn where I served as the S3 Operations SGT for the 2nd Bn (Special Skills Bn). I moved from the S3 position to the 1SG position which is where I retired from in 2000. Two years after retirement I went back to SWC as a contractor to teach at the ASOT detachment once again.

Well that's pretty much my background and it's nice to be here.

AL
