MVS2,
I was in the UK at about this time, and believe much of the controversy with “Andy McNabb’s” book had to do with General Sir de la Billiere selling his autobiographical book - LOOKING FOR TROUBLE at about the same time as Bravo Two Zero was being published. My understanding is that some thought there was a double standard in play, wherein an officer (de la Billiere) could publish (his “autobiography”), while a member of the Ranks could not publish.
General Sir de la Billiere, KCB, KBE, DSO, Ret. Commanded the 22 SAS from 1972 – 1974, and had association with the regiment before and after those years.
The Brits have the “Official Secrets Act”, so I doubt any unauthorized information was released in either tome.
