The Tomb Guards are great Americans. Thankfully, they aren't held to many of the absurdly strict standards outlined in the article posted above. There is no restrictions on drinking alcohol beyond normal Army regulations, and they aren't prohibited from swearing for the remainder of their lifetimes. They are allowed to talk to people and watch TV during their first 6 months of assignment as Tomb Guards. They don't live in a barracks under the Tomb, but do spend some of their on-duty time in a "ready room" under the Tomb. There are height requirements, but the 30" waist requirement doesn't apply any longer; soldiers must be "physically fit" and "well proportioned". Additionally, the height requirements were changed in 1994 to allow for female guards (not to mention the change to allow MPs to be guards in addition to infantrymen , for the same reason).
