Shar - Why is that such a bad thing to say? I use those exact words "military thing" more than you can imagine. My life is a "military thing" for crying out loud.
Was he refering to suggestions that military person would be his best bet as a running mate? That's my guess since Anthony Zinni has been one suggestion as a running mate for Obama.
I think we are a little to sensitive.

No, he was saying he didn't need anyone with that whole "military thing" (which in his mind was the same thing as foreign policy if you read the article quoting him) because he had enough experience in that arena. In my opinion the way he threw it out there was VERY condenscending. "Military thing" - a trifle, a little bitty, insignificant hobby that someone can just pick up on the fly.
Am I being over-sensitive? Maybe. But he and his wife are showing themselves to be very high-minded and apt to make pretty broad-stroked comments that lead one to believe that they find themselves to be better than the rest of us. Especially those who are involved in that whole "military-thing."
