RUDY'S BBQ

RUDY's BBQ
There are two SA locations (last time I checked anyway), one in Leon Springs which is on the way out to Boerne out I-10 and the other is by Sea World. It's the best BBQ. Not at all fancy, but gets super crowded in the evenings, so be prepared to stand in a decent sized line to place your order. You'll want to buy a bottle of the sauce to take home with you. I get a case sent up to me to distribute to various favored friends from time to time by my parents. The BBQ brisket rocks, and the smoked turkey are my two favorites. If you are a spicy whimp, try the Not-So-Hot Sauce.

If you want fancier BBQ, you can always try the County Line.

Alamo Cafe isn't really Mexican, but it is Tex-Mex at its finest. There are two locations now. One on I-10 by USAA and the Medical Center area (the older location) and a much newer HUGE location on 281 near Blanco (I dont remember the exact exit, but it's on the access road just past Blanco on the east side). For Mexican food there are plenty of places and everyone local will probably have their own personal favorite, but... mine are:
El Jarro De Arturo 13421 San Pedro Ave - near Ft Sam in the Alamo Heights area; and Tomatillo's Cafe 3210 Broadway St also in the same area.

For Italian, Paesanos is at 555 E Basse Rd. They have this shrimp dish that still makes my mouth water and I haven't had it in like 10 years. It right in the heart of Alamo Heights.

Eating in San Antonio is really good - you kind of can't go too wrong. Even the fast food is good if you want fast mexican try Taco Cabana and for fast BBQ, Bill Millers isn't half bad and is a ton better than McD's!

I'm sure I'll think of a bunch of other places to eat, but no matter what, Bluebell is the best ice cream in the country.
