Hello,
I would like to take a few minutes to introduce myself.
[EDIT: I apologize for the length]
My name is Chad. I live in Washington state, just a little south of Seattle.
As of this year I have decided to join the U.S. Army. As many of you have already suspected, I am planning on joining Special Forces (as we all know nothing is a guarantee).
Joining the Army, and being a Special Forces soldier is something I have dreamed of all my life. Unfortunately it took me 23 years to realize it. In June I will be signing up and entering. I am currently working with a old friend who is an ex-Ranger. He will be assisting me in making the right decisions, ensuring I am in peak physical condition, and aiding me in the recruiting process (as I have been told dozens of lies through my past five (5) years of working with recruiters). I am not yet certain if I will join with a 18X contract, or a Officer contract and head to 18A from there. During my years of Boy Scouts, and becoming an Eagle Scout, one of my scout masters (an ex-Green Beret) taught me many valuable things I will continue to utilize all my life (especially during training).
There are several reasons for my deciding to become a Green Beret. Some of it because of the challenge, some due to the pride (I would be a fool if I didn't say it's a bit of a "cool" factor), but mostly because I want to make the world a better place. Yes I know that sounds dumb, but it is the truth. And I know my part in helping innocent people is that within the Army (weather it be as a Special Forces soldier or elsewhere).
I originally found this forum due to a complete brain failure. I have the words "Lo Que Sea, Cuando Sea, Donde Sea" as my MSN personal message. For the life of me I could not remember what it meant. So doing a google search, I was led here. It must have been due to a higher power, as this is a complete gold mine for me. Just in the 4 or so hours of reading I did last night I have gained much knowledge, and a much better understanding of the true nature of a Special Forces soldier (things recruiters generally don't tell you).
I am extremely grateful I have found this site, and that many of you active military members support such a forum. This is one of the most valuable pieces of information any young man (or woman) can gain before joining.
I look forward to learning all I can from this site, and future discussions with other members of this site; as well as, potentially becoming a member of the Special Forces community.
I hope you have all enjoyed a great Easter weekend!
