What was that old saying from Lincoln... "a house divided against itself cannot stand" or something close to that. I think we are seeing that with the Democrats.
Neither party can win the oval office without the support of independents and some "moderates" from the other party. There are too many swing states where the vote is almost always close to 50-50. The same however cannot be said of Congressional elections. During the last election cycle moderate Republicans were replaced by moderate democrats in two dozen districts. The net result is that the House and Senate are now being run by people who are so far removed from the political mainstream that I have no doubts that many voters are now suffering buyers remorse. It is one thing to be the opposition party with no power and the party in control. Their wacky ways will now be laid bare for all the world to see.
As we get closer to the general election it will only get worse as Obama and Hillary try and out left each other. In the process they will turn off the moderates in their party and many independent voters nationwide. The Republicans on the other hand have a field of candidates that are, for the most part, not as far removed from the center/left in the country. As a conservative it makes me ill that we have guys like McCain, Romney and Guiliani to chose from but the lack of a real serious conservative (Come on Fred, save us from ourselves) threat in the field will prevent that republicans from trying to out do one another.
I think we saw the first shot fired by the Obama camp with that Apple commercial. He can deny it all he wants but his camps fingerprints are all over that and the Clinton's know it. Knowing the Clinton's history it won't go unanswered and their response is likely to be extremely vitriolic. Chances are that they will eat each other alive over the next 6 months and I couldn't be happier.
