There is; while you were gaining leadership experience at platoon, company, battalion (ODA, ODB, Bn) positions, your medical counterpart was not. Unfortunately, often the sum total of preparation for command for physicians was the pre-command course.

I think combat arms officers replacing medical corps officers is a good thing; unfortunately, rumor has it that combat arms soldiers may be a little busy right now.
