BIRMINGHAM, England (CNN) -- British police have arrested nine alleged terrorists who they say were planning an "Iraq-style" abduction inside Britain, a senior security source told CNN.
The plot, which allegedly was to include the torture and beheading of a British Muslim soldier, was foiled in early morning raids on Wednesday conducted by West Midlands police throughout central England in what the Home Office called a "major counterterrorism operation."
British security sources did not identify the soldier, but said he was back in Britain after having served in Afghanistan.
