I do not know if the Red Flash was as much a copy of the 7th Group flash as is dictated in this thread. Although RED, it is the artillery color. Much like the infantry "Turn Blue" after AIT by having a family member place the Blue cord on their right shoulder, the red cord (whatever it's called) used to be standard on the class A's as for artillery MOS's.
