Peanut shells were/are not as effective as finely ground Walnut Shells for cleaning the "Gas-path" of Turbine Engines. The shells are induced into the inlet of a Turbine Engine, while it is running, and they "scrub" any buildup from the comppressor blades and guide vanes. This cleaning drastically improves the efficiency and power that the engine can develop.
