CAPAUSRET. "You will not be a good O if you do not possees those traits that make an Officer a leader"....... CAPAUSRET could transition from senior NCO, to WO, and to Captain because he had/has the traits of a leader. The same traits make or break you as an NCO or Officer.
It isn't the first time there have been comments made that infer if you don't have the traits to be a good leader you would do better as an NCO. I happen to believe that every NCO in SF has or should have excellent leadership traits or they don't belong in SF. Being on a team in one of the Groups is not the place to learn leadership traits.
If you don't have the required traits, go find a slot in a unit as a soldier. Don' try to develope them while serving on an SF team.
