My reservations are not ones that pertain to the duties of an officer, I enjoy leading and the evaluations of my leadership(both at school and at Fort Lewis this summer) say that I do a pretty good job of it. However, the way they do branch assignments is what bothers me. I could end up Infantry (ideally) or Chemical simply based on what needs the Army has. The possibility of being stuck in a pogue job is very high, along with riding a desk after only a few years with feet on the ground.
I have no reservations about enlisting either, it is easier to branch what you want (even if the 18x doesnt work out, your still 11B, unlike the as an officer) along with the fact that I would like to stay on the fighting side of things as long as possible. Either route I would ideally stay in for the full 20 + years.
I have already signed the contract and have been in ROTC for 3 years. They have been paying for my college and I now am "in debt" to them. I have been looking into my options upon graduation next year, and I want to be well informed as to what options are available for me however the next year works out.
