Introduction

My name is Scott Andrews. I am 21 years old and I am currently a student but recently come to the realization that it, isn’t for me. I am preparing to enlist in the Army next summer, if all goes well, under an 18x contract. I talked a bit with my recruiter as well as my cousin, who some time back, was enlisted as an Army linguist. She has been a great help in educating me on some of the things I will need to help in my goal. She provided me with the books “Masters of Chaos” and “Inside Delta Force” which led me into more and more research and some discussions with my recruiter, and more research, which eventually led me here. My family comes from a long line of professional servicemen, most recently my Uncle, Jerzy Kichner retired as a Captain in the Coast Guard after 30+ years, my cousin is a cadet in the Coast Guard Academy, his 2 half brothers are currently officers in the Coast Guard, and my brother had been a cadet but realized military life was not for him. As to why I would choose Army Special Forces over the Coast Guard that so many of my family has chosen? I grew up as a 2nd generation American, from a family that was Polish refugees in WW2, the thing they talk about most is how there was no one there for them in their time of need. Given the motto of the Special Forces of liberating the oppressed it just felt like the right place for me, and my family had a long history of service within the Polish Army, my great Grandfather, Jozef Maziec, being a “Virtuti Militari” recipient at the age of 19, for his rescue of superior officers on more then on occasion during the Polish-Soviet War 1919-1920. Basically a part of me wants to re-establish that old tradition, as well as serve my country and give back a little bit of what it gave to me and my family. Anyway, I’ve rambled on enough and I’m sure you all have better things to do then read this.
