There were some shanigans in '69 with the 82nd at Bragg over berets. Ours.
I wore a "Candy Bar" for awhile in the 17th SFG(A) It wasn't just for support people. In my case, it meant I was Airborne qualified and assignd to that group. Only SF qualified wore the full flash. (No Tab in those days.)

At that time support people, or people assigned to the group and not yet Airborne qualified, wore the Green beret with no bar or flash just the Regimental crest. Of course this was in the early Sixties. When I first went to the 17th, in June '61 the Green Beret was not authorized yet.
