Hello,
Thanks for having me and my compliments on an excellent BB. I served as an infantry soldier from 90 to 96, during that time I served in Korea (5/20 Inf) Ft Stewart GA (2/7 Inf) and Germany (4/12 Inf) I left the service because my wife swore she would leave if I didnt. Stupid me, should have seen it coming. Two months later she left anyway. I decided to go back in but my plans were changed by a car accident. Enough of my whining.
My primary reason for coming here was my interest in US Military history, more specificaly, an interest in the history of Special Forces. If I make it into a Post Grad program my thesis will most likely deal with some aspect of the role of Special Forces in Vietnam. Ultimately I hope to get a civillian job at The Center for Military History.
Any posts I make here will most likely deal with some aspect of SF history ( OPSEC will never be an issue I assure you). Im fairly well read on the subject so I will do my level best not to ask any stupid questions.
Im hoping through this board to come into contact with some of the old school SF types Im hoping are out there.
As a side note, Ive been collecting SF related militaria for about 8 years now, focusing on the pre-Vietnam and Vietnam period. Ive managed to collect a number of uniforms from the period and would be happy to share pics of my collection with any like minded collectors. The pride and joy of my collection is a uniform jacket from a soldier assigned to the 77th Grp. Its a 50s era Ike jacket with the old teal and gold airborne tab. I have the owners name and am currently researching his career.
I just realized that I havent filled out my profile (Ithought I filled it out when I registerd some months ago but I guess I didnt, I know I know, attention to detail) correcting that as soon as I finish typing this.
Finally, without sounding too much like a cheese eating pouge (hard to do I know), Id like to thank all the "Quiet Professionals" out there for laying it on the line and taking care of business as only you guys can.
Thanks, JW
