introduction
hi all my name is RB Blackshear and I came across this forum after reading the book "Get Selected for Special Forces" which I finished in a few hours and will undoubtedly pick it up and continue to refer to it.
Background: I come from a military family. My father is a retired chemical SGM and former D.S. My uncle is a CSM 11B down in benning but is presently in Iraq. and my cousin is about to get his E9 if he hasnt already.
About Me: I have learned a bit from my family members and did JROTC all through High School as well as 2 years of ROTC in college. I left ROTC after my freshman year and went into the national guard as a chemical soldier, later going back to ROTC for one year. I am presently 22 years old and preparing for deployment to Iraq in the late summer months or early fall. I plan on going to OCS upon returning and then going to SFAS.
Why I want to go SF: I have always looked at SF soldiers in a different light which is all deserving for what you guys do and have done. I figured once I joined that I would be content with being in my unit, but the lack of tracking, lack of organization, and lack of motivation really drags me down. So I became proactive and since my "barracks" down in Vancouver, WA is shared with a few members of 19th GRP I began to ponder going SF. My girlfriend of 5 years almost has a few uncles and a father that have been SF for a long time. Not sure if any of you guys know CW4 Glenister but that is her father. He is almost like a 2nd father to me and has talked to me about selections and has really helped me become more interested and all the more motivated to do this. Also I talked to a cadre here at PLU. Maj Emoto who has also helped me with a training plan to prepare.
I really apologize for the novel I just typed its just that after reading this book and talking to a few SF guys I am really looking forward to this. I contemplated going to selctions prior to deploying but i really want to mature and gain more experience prior to taking up a task of this nature and since I will be going to SFAS to become an 18A i want as much experience as possible. SFAS is still 2 yrs down the road for me but I am eager as if it is tomorrow and just prepping for it has me highly motivated. but thanks for this great site and I am off to search thru the site for more info
