Intro

Gentleman,

I would like to start with a couple thank yous:
1. I want to thank the administrator's for giving me an area to post an introduction.
2. I appreciate the time and effort place into this forum. It is a wealth of information.

A few things about me:
I started my military career in the Marine Corps in 1989. Served my 6 years then left active duty. I missed the military camaraderie. In the wake of 9/11 I joined the reserve served a couple years.

I will be running my second LA Marathon on March 19. My coworkers shy away from these challenges...

I was seeking something more for myself and service to others. I discovered the local Special Forces Unit in late Jan 2006. I attended the SFRE in Feb 2006 with no ruck preparation (I missed the run and ruck march). The Major and SSG both stated that I did very well considering and invited me back to attend their next SFRE.

Why do I want to be a Special Forces Soldier?
This goes back to High school when I attended Army JROTC. One of the teachers just retired as a MSG from the Special Forces. I did not know at the time as Special Forces are almost as obscure as prison life but they are mature operators, teachers and representatives of our country. This is where I want to be. I want to be surrounded by men attacking challenges.

In my interview after the SFRE the SSG stated that the "Green Beret" is a license to learn…

Now it is on me.

So far, I have invested some time with a ruck on my back. I will build the miles and speed. I will polish up the speed of my runs after my marathon in a couple of weeks. I missed the run by just under a minute and the 8 mile ruck by half an hour. After a couple of weeks I have dropped my 5 mile ruck time from an 18:30 mile to around 13:40 min mile. I'll build my distance to 11 miles (over the hill by my house) and the ruck time to around 12 minutes or so. The two leaders of the SFRE ran the entire distance. I will be prepared to do the same.

Thanks again for your time,

Marc McLellan
