I hate to say it but I believe that the Cumberland County area has priced their butts out of this build up. When taxes are cheaper in the Snow Bird area of Moore County then here in Cumberland then why would anyone build a house here?
I am looking at moving in a few years (yes this build up means I will now spend more money then than now, but wife doesn't seem to understand that) and I am looking to the Cameron to Carthage area or more towards Wilmington. OUT of Cumberland though.
The area I am in now was farmland 20 years ago when I bought. It is now a giant suburb of Fayetteville, and waiting for a big bang annexation. That would effectively double my taxes. At my age I would never see anything from an annexation, only taxes.
