Nancy's address to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences

This is a couple of years old, but it is worth reading.

She underscores truth and integrity, which has always been at the core of military leadership.

Smart Lady. What's your secret? (Obviously you have one if she's continued to put up with you all these years! :p) Peregrino

I think one of the reasons it works between us, is that I am not in awe of her (I am in awe of her work)...Were I in her field, she would completely overshadow me.

Now I didn't have an illustrious career, I should have gone to USMAPS when I was selected. But I probably had a lot more fun doing what I did, and although I didn't rise higher than CPT, I worked with a few legends, and I am satisfied with my career.

Besides, she got lucky! She married an Army Aviator.:D

De nada.

Re opposite journey, I am sure it's doable, I'll ask Nancy for examples.

I finished The Creating Brain this morning - very good.

Makes me wonder about modest amounts of alcohol... and if different personality "types" are more or less prone to be creative. And the Middle East. And persecusion and who are really cleared from the gene pool in such cases, considering who is most likely to figure out how to survive - even though intelligentsia might be a higher profile. And lots of other things.

I liked her section about children.

Martin:

Glad you liked it, I'll pass your thoughts on to Nancy.

I initially thought the childrens thing was simplistic, as in everyone should know these things. She then reminded me how many parents just park their kids in front of the TV...

Okay, thanks Sir! Good writing style too.

I think the children's thing fit right in. A natural progression for our most valuable, who will form tomorrow, on to the grown up advises. It gave it a feeling of completeness for what was set out as the objective.

On the other hand, I have a crush on someone, so I am momentarily biased...

I started "The Creating Brain" this week. It is one of those books I will have read about three times by the time I finish. I'm just in chapter 3 "reaching Xanadu". I am finding it a very provocative read, it is great. I read, stop, think, and read again. Of course, I read....and then think ...."what is my brain doing now"....

It has also caused me to go back and reread Donne and TS Eliot.

I just read this post to Nancy, she is glad that you liked it.

When you are re-reading Donne, try to find Nancy's book on Donne. It doubtless will be difficult, as it was published in 67, under N J C Andreasen.
