MM dump/utility pouch

i usually sing the praises of good kit from manufacturers that i run across, and try not to self-promote stuff that i've been involved in designing. however, my MM dump pouch, which has been available on a custom-made basis from jon of reccegear since early last year, is now being made by maxpedition, who has licensed my particular design. it debuted at SHOT, and is coming out next week. jon at reccegear has been so swamped with orders and projects that he has not been able to keep up with production, so hopefully this will take some pressure off him so he can concentrate on other, more interesting projects, rather than making cookie-cutter pouches.
for those who aren't familiar with it, it's just a 'portable hole/expandable pocket' - same genre of pouch as eggroll's excellent loppy and conceptually based on pouches like the eagle duty evidence bag.
i'm excited and proud of it, so forgive me for pimpin'. this is also the first product that i'm actually going to sell (on a small scale, mostly to buddies and fellow forum menbers - my main interest is gear design and development, not production or sales). here are pics and description:

See, I told you that you would be a great gear pimp!

Just don't let it affect your objectivity.

i'll do my best, TR. i've always prided myself in being objective so far and i don't plan on changing. when dealing with any products that i've been involved in designing, i'll try to present 'just the facts', and not an opinion, as it'll obviously be biased.
i fully understand that what people want from me is a honest opinion and facts about products with the consumers' best interests in mind. i'm a consumer too, and i hate the kiss-ass writeups in some of the rags or sites that i read.
if you see my objectivity start to go awry, please give me a slap upside the head and help keep me honest. i'd rather have a good reputation for being a straight-up guy than all the gear in the world.
thanks and cheers,
MM

MM (or anyone else),

Do you know where one can acquire Mil-Spec BDU fabric? Looking for tri-color desert and woodland patterns, 100% cotton ripstop.

i haven't seen any but the poly/cotton blend twill, but for a start, try these places - they might be able to point you in the right direction:

MM,
Congratulations. Just don't be making them in sweatshops in Thailand and you won't have to go on The People's List. LOL

Para 03-12-2004 17:24

Thanks guys,

I had talked with HLC Industries already, but they are only selling in 500yd rolls. That's a bit more then I am looking for at the moment. I will check have to check the other companies out.

thanks NDD. i'm sticking to designing, not manufacturing. maxpedition is made in sweatshops in taiwan, not thailand. just kidding 'bout the sweatshops :)

Para, you might want to ask if they provide samples or scraps (depending on how much you need). i ran into a similar problem when i was trying to find duraflex quik-attach buckles. i searched everywhere but no one sold them in small (dozen) quantities. i called the manufacturer and they only sold to distributors. distributors only sold in large quantities. but one of the distributors asked me how many i needed, and told me 'oh, i'll just send them to you as samples', and i got everything i needed at no cost.
another avenue to try is to call propper or terry manufacturing and ask if they'd sell you a small quantity of the 3-colour desert material they use to manufacture BDUs (both have 100% cotton ripstop).
cheers,
MM
