I was at 1/10 as the KSK was stood up. I don't believe the article provides sufficient detail to make any determination.

Does anyone understand what the criteria is for the German government to determine something is "extreme right". I have some preconceived expectation that coming from a socialist/liberal left government, anything that indicates a strong national bond and national pride would be "extreme".

^ Yes, 100%. I have been tracking this unit for a little while, not because I think for two seconds that they are actually a threat to anything I hold dear, but because, despite all evidence, the USG has prioritized "right-wing extremism" and, even since the Floyd riots, is putting these stories at the top of their read-outs and assessments. They even prioritize foreign "far right" political parties, which really only requires a national identity or pride as you mentioned, but not far left literal communist literal Bolshevik parties aimed at destroying everything western about the world. They also like to cite far left sources, such as the SPLC, which is more of a domestic terror organization than any of these so-called right wing groups are, and a pro-abortion activist group called Campaign for Accountability whose members have spent more time attacking "anti-choice" Americans than they have reading American history.

FYI here's a quote from one of the commanders of the German KSK unit in question from not long ago:

"In the midst of our community, there were and obviously still are individuals who have been and still are part of the so-called right spectrum," said Kreitmayr, warning they would be removed, but should leave of their own accord."

In their case, anything in the "right spectrum" is verboten, and anything deemed remotely tethered to nationalism is far right.
