Army Contracts with GM for New Infantry Vehicle Based on Chevy Colorado

U.S. Army paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division will be the first unit to receive the service's new Infantry Assault Vehicle under a deal with GM Defense LLC aimed at equipping foot soldiers with increased mobility on the battlefield.

The Army on June 26 awarded GM Defense, and its partner Ricardo Defense, a contract worth up to $214.3 million to build 649 ISVs that can be airdropped or carried by helicopter into the fight, according to an Army news release. The contract, according to information published by the Defense Department, includes "installation kits, ancillary hardware and logistical support."

That must be some very special support and training offered by the vendors.

Armor plating costs money.
I'd bet if you up-armored something like a Tacoma it would cost upwards of 250k
...maybe more if you got Rick Hendrick to do it

You could probably lower the price a little if you went overseas and made those same modifications to something like a Hilux or a Surf
It sounds like a good idea though - I'd ride all over town in an up-armored Hilux if I had one.

Compare these two very different interpretations of the 1990 Chevy Lumina:
One of them could be purchased for any of us as a daily driver...
The other cost 250,000 dollars to build and just sold for almost half a million.

Does not appear to offer a great deal of personal protection.

There's this on wiki's Chevy Colorado link: "GM Defense and U.S. Army TARDEC partnered in 2016 to develop and successfully test the Chevrolet Colorado ZH2 fuel cell electric truck, with low acoustical and heat signatures as well as the advantages of on-board water production, exportable electric power and off-road capability." Is it possible that the new Infantry vehicle has some of this technology included? If so, I'd buy an unarmored (or lightly armored) one. :D
