The Norma 338 seems like a good choice.
Much better ballistics than the M240/7.62x51
Much lighter package than the M2/50cal,, @20lbs
AND it comes Suppressed?

But,, will the recoiling barrel be a maintenance issue?

Time will tell. What destroys guns is heat and pressure. Too light and the gun will beat itself to death. M60s were heavier and destroyed themselves overtime. Mk48s destroy themselves also. Rates of fire will also determine how long the gun will last.
