Some here might have eaten some of these foods.

The Afghan food that I ate was delicious as it was simple. I'll admit to eating at Afghan restaurants from time to time. Brings back memories. I ate the no kidding simple food and loved it. Expecially the bread. I also had dinner at a long table headed by Gen Dostum where we got the best that could be provided at the time (I let the conventional force US COL's have the seats next to him and I sat down-table... but the bearded American(s) still got a head nod...he knew..;))

I'll have to admit that I thought that the "secret food" was the human fecal matter that was mixed into the dust that we breathed and ate. :lifter

The food is one of the things I miss the most with the AOR shift. Give me some naan and Kabuli palau and I'm a happy boy.

My favorite was when ever we were conducting long patrols, we would stop a few miles from a town and set up our RON and send the Afghan troops into town to buy a few sheep and naan.

Tear off some naan, use the naan to tear off some meat, eat, repeat!

There is an Afghan restaurant in our neighborhood that has all sorts of great dishes involving pumpkins. Solid Eats!

I couldn't agree more with those two items. Haven't had any decent na'an since.

A still warm na'an will always remain one of life's simplest/best pleasures.

The only other thing I would add are those iranian candied almonds.

But no more poo water chai please, like ever.

The only thing about Afghan restaurants in the US is that they don't have the tables set with plates of the blue crystalline stuff that kills the shit out of flies. It's not quite the same without that.
