Sometimes I hate guns, especially when I cannot figure out what the problem is and I'm an 18B.

Took it apart 10 times, cleaned everything, no joy.

I'm going to mic the bullets and check their lengths.

Had I first taken apart the gun "before" I made the purchase I'd not bought it, plastic and aluminum.........

Sorry Ruger but I've made my last Ruger purchase.

not to belabor the obvious, but it happens with all .22 ammo?

Had several .22 pistol and rifle over the years...I think .22 is the other name for finnicky

TS I shoot a lot of 22, some high end target and some 10/22. What ammo and have you tried a different mag. Target ammo is lubed and will gum up the ruger mags, only FTF I experience is with after market high capacity mags, last one I gave away. Some details and I will help you trouble shoot.

My brother gave me the very same carbine as a partial repayment for something I can't remember what. I also have a JC Higgens, probably a Mossberg, .22 rifle that is a clip fed bolt action. The Ruger has not been to the range in ten years; same problem you are having. I decided to not rent space in my head to the Ruger.

I've had a few of them and agree on the possibility of the problem being the ammo. Always worked well with round nose or semi-round nose (CCI Stingers) bullets. Not so well sometimes with the tapered flat nose ones.

You can also buy aftermarket aluminum trigger groups for them.

Ruger has excellent customer service. Send them an email and within hours you will have postage with FedEx or UPS in your email.

My Ruger MkIII had problems with most types of ammo, 1st time even mini-mags. Sent it back twice before it was reliable with 75% of ammo types. Third time was me just being an unrealistic human being, 100% reliability with 100% of ammo types in a .22lr.... maybe one day, but I'll have to shoot about 10k more rounds through the gun to get there.

I did ammo testing with about 12 brands of ammo.

They might also include some free mags if you push the issue.

Eventually I came to the conclusion that 22lrs are picky and just accepted it.

See here's the funny part, I have three 10/22's and the other two work just fine...... the one quit firing while the other one kept on shooting, same make, model and purchased the same day.

I had one of the recent takedown models of the 10/22...it jammed to often for my tastes and that was after dumping some 'upgrade' money into it. I sold it for a loss.

Ruger will replace anything basically free, but it makes me wonder why they don't put the product out the door right in the first place.

With the cost of decent .22 these days, I do my plinking with my Colt 9mm AR.

Found the problem...... I was looking in the wrong places. The firing pin was jammed and I mean jammed, it would not move. It was jammed in the forward position so it was catching the round as it was loading /feeding and jamming it in the chamber at an odd angle. Took it apart, cleaned it, reassemble, works like a charm!

Will tear down the others and clean out the firing pin shafts before firing again.
