Preparation as a civilian

Hello,

I graduate college in 5 months and am curious about the 18A pipeline. What should I start doing now to prepare myself if I were to have the opportunity to go down that route? Well, I know part of the answer to that: reading these forums. But if there is something specific I should be doing with my life right now, physically or mentally, any advice you have would be appreciated. Should I start talking to a recruiter or just do my own thing in the meantime?

As you seem to be in a very basic entry position, I would suggest you find a copy of Col Martin's book

Are you in ROTC and about to get commissioned? Are you going to go via the OCS route? Either way, you need to wait until you are year group eliglible to put in for SFAS as an officer... say 4 years from commissioning... what are you going to do to make yourself the best candidate when the time comes around?

You have the cart about 35 km in front of the horse... what's your 25m target?

BTW - your intro sucks.

IME, its a good idea to concentrate on the near targets with such a long path ahead if this isn't a technique of yours already.

I've never had a great interest in entering SF, but would be surprised if this approach works any less well in that branch.

Good luck.

OCS route. Currently in college on the GI bill. My 25m target is to be as physically fit as possible and complete college. I have been doing a lot of mountain hiking this summer to help heal psychological wounds and restore my land navigation skills.

So I have to do a stint as a regular army officer before SFAS? And the intro: how so? not enough info?

Use your google-foo, search the net and/or here..

Look for requirements for officers contemplating SFAS..

The $00.00002 answer: have been successful in your branch assignments prior to application for Special Forces.

My advice would be simply, "Don't to dumb shit."

Wow... your preparation for a career in the military sucks moose balls. Did you not even look into what it takes to be an SF officer? You stated that's what you wanted to do.

2 lines of I'm in college and I want to be SF... sorry bud, that's just friggin lazy and rude to those of us who actually read profiles to get an idea of who we're dealing with when they state they want to join our ranks.

Please, join the Navy and become a SEAL, or the Marines and go MARSOC.

Thanks guy. But unfortunately for you I am the most important man in my life and will make my own decisions. I don't even know what more information about me you would find relevant. Do you want to know my body fat %? My testosterone level? The size of my penis? Jesus Christ.

No, RA, we do not know any of those details about you. We do know many of the details of those who you remind us of who have gone before you and failed miserably. Or worse, squeezed through and corrupted their ODA. (Google ODA please, just in case your confused.)

If you want to measure your worth by body fat % and penis size you should strongly consider the Navy.

Have a nice day.

Hmm.

Asking for advice, and then getting hostile when people who have done what you want to do try to develop sufficient background to provide you sound advice.

Anger management issues?

Maybe you should just stick with searching and reading. An ODA would kill and eat you for lunch.

You, you, you, and you.

Hmmm.

All you care about is you.

And yet you get all hostile when asked more about you.

You numba 10.

Toss this rucksack in the hall, before it stinks up the place any further.
