Bragg Fishing..........

Anyone having any luck fishing on Bragg yet this year? I am TDY for the 18F course and have been fishing several times and thus far only caught pickerel.

Did I miss something while I was away as I thought most lakes were pretty populated. (Granted that was 6 years ago).

Each lake are stocked to a point, Range Control wild life. So depending on what you want will drive which lake to go too.

Yeah, I have been talking to them and they are giving me the lakes that are supposedly the good ones.

Maybe I will throw the jon boat in little muddy and see if I cant grab something out of there. (If I can get the go ahead as I am not sure if you can drop a boat in there or not)

I've caught bass in most of the waters on Ft Bragg over the last 20 years or so...none of them worth "bragging" over. I think the biggest I've caught on post was probably about 2.5 lbs. at boundary line.

Use to be some good fishing in those lakes. I know now days things have changed and what were good bass lakes are now catfish areas. Caught my biggest bass on Bragg out of Smith Lake.. 8.5 pounds, then McKellers pond had bass and such.. 6 pounder. Smith back then had a great population of crappie also.

Little Muddy also was a good place to chase bass.

One of the best ponds they had was McKeithan Pond in the impact area. CLOSED in the late 70;s. You had to go to Range Control to get a pass, but well worth it. The bass loved a Jitterbug in that pond.

Good luck
