Stick of dynamite left out by Los Angeles airport police after training

live stick of dynamite was accidentally left on an old plane at an airport museum for four days, a law enforcement officer at Los Angeles International Airport said Thursday.

The official, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak publicly, said workers on the tarmac found the dynamite Tuesday when they noticed the bright colors on the stick.

The stick was left behind after a Saturday training exercise for K9 officers and their dogs who work at the airport. Though live, the dynamite would have required a detonator or explosive to be set off.

Sgt. Belinda Joseph, a spokeswoman, said the object was a training aid and "there was a certain amount of TNT contained in it" but denied that it was a stick of dynamite.

She said airport police are investigating and have notified the Transportation Security Administration.

The stick was checked out from a TSA explosive storage container for training.

A few years ago the DEA was using a vacant house to watch a suspected drug house. Owner said that was fine as long as they could continue to "show" the house, it was for sale.

Real estate agent goes to show the house and finds an MP-5 in the bathroom. She calls the development owner that she knows and he's also a former infantry officer, Vietnam Vet. He goes to the house and picks up the MP-5 and calls the DEA to come and pick their toys.....

Personally I'd have kept it for a few weeks while some DEA agent was wetting his/her pants.....;)

I've been a pilot for over 40 years and worked at LAX for almost 20 and have never used nor heard anyone use the term "tarmac". That's a writer's term and it's imprecise.

In support, I would cite the common law - "finders keepers, losers weepers", an imprecise but ancient rule not codified in statute.

I was thinking about a month and then a quick call to the RAC and ask if there was a reward being offered for its safe return. Least they could do would be to buy the first round.:D

That has to have been 20 yrs ago as DEA has not had MP5's for years.......

More like 7-10 years ago. Bet if you look the Phoenix DEA had MP-5's then......

probably a TFO's weapon. Hell you would not believe what they bring to the table from their PD's
