Mosul Dam
Is anyone tracking the state of the Mosul Dam?
I am currently serving in Taji, Iraq, and we have been briefed about the very real possibility of the Mosul Dam failing and flooding as far as Northern Baghdad. Many engineers here on the ground are predicting that if this Dam fails, which they actually had a record winter in turkey, where most of the water comes from, that this could be a potential "Country Killer"
Amidst the problems that will befall Baghdad and Mosul, (no electricity, no clean drinking water, millions of bodies getting washed away due to no early warning response..etc)
We that are serving here, have no place to run. insufficient aircraft to evac both State Dept, and DOD personnel just don't exist in the number it would take to get everyone out.
Even if we can fuel up the UH/CH platforms as well as the AH aircraft, we don't have another fueling location (FARP) in S. Iraq to make it back to Kuwait....
Of course talk of the Dam collapse has been going on for years.....But what if this year is the year it actually occurs? Talking about biblical level of flooding in Mosul.....
Any thoughts from all of the QP out there on this subject?
I don't usually post on this fantastic site, I usually just read, but this is a problem here that could easily turn into a catastrophe and I would love any input so I can be armed with advice/opinion/TTPs etc so I can assist with my Platoon getting out safe and sound...and prepare.
Ive searched the site and I don't think there is another Mosul Dam discussion, at least that I could find.
