Has there been a lowering of standards?
While helping one of my wife's friends today at a clinic, I overheard a guy who works there talking about going back into the Army. When I talked to him he stated that his only option was, because he was a Army medic, was to go to Special Forces. He stated that his ASVAB score was a 97. Said they were sending him to Jump School then to SEARs training. Are recruiters just trying to fill quotas?
I feel bad for the guy if he is being scammed by the recruiters. |
This is a recurring question, there is a search button in your top right. Google is amazing too.
Stickies are really go place to start and look in each section before posting. http://www.professionalsoldiers.com/...hread.php?t=63 http://www.professionalsoldiers.com/...hread.php?t=64 Google lead me here with two more clicks... http://www.sorbrecruiting.com/SF_Qualifications.htm |

Can't speak to the "Can only go back in SF, cos I was a 68W"...but you might have heard him wrong. Or a recruiter is trying to get him to sign an 18x contract so the recruiter can get 2 "points". Although this is unlikely.
But "97 on ASVAB" - He's probably referring to 97th percentile, which will likely give him the 110(?) minimum GT line score to drop an 18x packet. More detail needed, to make any sense of it. S |
An AFQT (overall score) of 97 is two points below maximum. A very good score.

UPDATE: He is actually lucky to even get a shot to get back on active duty with the current recruiting environment. See prior service business rules here: http://www.goarmy.com/careers-and-jo...ess-rules.html Also, he is not going to "SERE" training after Airborne School. He would attend 11B AIT, Airborne School, SOPC/SFPC, then SFAS. If selected then on to SFQC, which incorporates SERE-C training during Phase II. |
Thanks for the help
I must cut down on my beer drinking prior to trying to type. Back in the old days there was a score of 120 to get in, I guess they have changed the test around in the last 22 years since I retired.
