Oil essence repels mosquitoes
Health officials fighting malaria, which still kills more than a half mil people a year globally, may have an effective new tool. Univ. of Neuchatel researchers in Switzerland, in an EU-funded study dubbed Enaromatic, said they have developed a new mosquito repellent, a mix of essential oils distilled from plants, that’s as effective as widely used chemicals such as Deet at keeping the insects away. Its advantage is that it is completely biodegradable and does not have the side effects that some chemical agents have.
