Missing Two Patches ...

Great collection, but he's missing a couple of historically important patchs -- the ones used in the 1950s by the 77th SFG : the Airborne Command shoulder patch and the para-glider cap patch.

Perhaps the reason the 7th SFG has an all-red flash is homage to this Airborne Command patch, without the glider/parachute?

Damn it. I should have clicked on the individual patch prior to commenting. Thanks Pat for pointing out my ignorance, but it was funnier my way :D

"Communism" - the RT Georgia team patch when Jimmy Johnson was its 1-0.

The 10th wore the AC SSI, and glider patch before the 77th was formed.

I believe the red flash like the DUI comes from the FSSF (SSI), not the AC SSI.

Nope. 7th (and 1st) were formed from the FSSF, thus the reason it is red.

FWIW - 7th and 1st weren't "formed" from the FSSF as the FSSF had been deactivated long before they were formed, but they do have have direct "lineage" to it as do all the SFGs as shown in the shape of the SF SSI and crossed arrows of the DUI and branch insignia. However, both the 7th SFG flash and 10th SFG oval also show that direct lineage in their use of the red of the FSSF SSI.

The 77th SFG was redesignated the 7th SFG, and then the 1st SFG, 3rd SFG, 5th SFG, 6th SFG, and 8th SFG were all formed from redesignated elements of the 7th SFG.

The black and gold AIRBORNE tab worn with the SF SSI is the direct link to the Airborne Command SSI worn by the original 10th and 77th SFGs.

Maybe my perception is a little off but I see a mushroom and think why?

I'm more into swords, tigers and such.

Look at the acronym KITD/FOHS (Kept In The Dark/Fed Only Horse Shit). The operation was kept a secret.
