Uh oh, another fake Harsey II on %Bay

Man I hate to see it happen but there is a Chinese made Harsey II on Fleabay currently at $206.00. The winning bidder won't be happy when he sends it to Spartan for a tune-up and it gets tossed. The scales are a dead give-away:

Caveat emptor folks :(

One of the hundred reasons I would never purchase anything off of ebay........

ErwinD 11-22-2013 21:08

Just as a follow up, I informed the seller that it was a knock off product, she was unaware as she is not a knife person. Not sure where the Spartan guys are in this process legally but just wanted them to know. They where the first folks I emailed regarding this sale on the bay.

I have got to admit that to the untrained eye, this latest generation of the Harsey II is a pretty good copy. They even knock off the packaging as well. If you where to click on the attached link (http://www.xxxknife.com/product.asp?productid=F0326) it takes you to the folks in China selling this counterfeit, complete with the box with all the decals. All for the super sale price of $56.75.

The link says xxxknife but its not a porn site but might as well be. :(

I suppose imitation is the highest form of flattery but in the case the duped buyer is the loser.

ErwinD,

The only thing that might tell us this is a fake is if the scales are cast and not machined out of micarta. They look like injection molded handles.

So your sure?

Everything else looks awfully good in the picture except a bevel grinding error that shouldn't happen on a Spartan.

The Spartan guys are at the New York Custom Knife Show right now.

Edited to add:
Imitation is not flattery, it's theft the same as stealing.

ErwinD 11-23-2013 13:15

Hi Bill,

To my eyes, the scales are cast, too "plasticky" looking. When I compare the Ebay listing knife to the one from the Chinese web site, they are identical even down to the packaging. Fully agree on the stealing part as well.

Dan

Edit: Thats not a FirstSpear sheath either, close but definitely not. The decal on the box is crooked and a different size than the one on my Spartan box. Doesn't look righteous.

Yep, the handles look like injection molding, the blade shows wear on the finish from rubbing on the sheath, and the stickers on the box most definitely are not up to the Spartan boys standard.

I would love to get a hold of one of these and test it out. See how fast it breaks. But would never give money to these A-Holes.

If I had the extra money, I would buy a couple of them and send one to Mark and Curtis and take the other one out and see how well it holds up to my abuse.

But I prefer to save my money and buy quality from the makers themselves.

Well, looks like the auction ended for $300.00 plus $12.00 for shipping. Not bad for a $50.00 knock off from China. I paid less for a "real" LNIB CRK Pacific in perfect condition. So sad :(

ErwinD 11-24-2013 23:11

Yet another fake

Wow, its happening again. Now there is another fake for $380.00 o.b.o.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SPARTAN-BLAD...#ht_384wt_1133

I like how they say these knives go for $425.00 on the Spartan Blades web site.

EDIT:

Good deal, Spartan got this one shut down in time.

Bill Harsey 12-17-2013 10:10

Good news.

Early on I'd told Spartan they would know they had "arrived" when Communist China started counterfeiting their work.
