Syria crisis: Guide to armed and political opposition
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-24403003 "There are believed to be as many as 1,000 armed opposition groups in Syria, commanding an estimated 100,000 fighters. Many of the groups are small and operate on a local level, but a number have emerged as powerful forces with affiliates across the country or formed alliances with other groups that share a similar agenda. The BBC News website looks at the most prominent................." A kind of Who's Who primer for the opposition in Syria. And the West thinks some kind of stable, friendly government is going to come out of this? |
Pete,
"And the West thinks some kind of stable, friendly government is going to come out of this?" I think the West knows this is a real cluster *7^^ . The politicians however want people to think they are doing something "positive" and saving humanity from it self. And the politicians will have a hundred reasons why it isn't their fault when the effort fails. At least this in my opinion. |
Large numbers of Europeans volunteer for Syria
The western European-based rebels, mostly young men, are being recruited by new networks that arrange travel and comfortable lodging in the heat of rebel territory, and foster a militant form of Islam that Western security officals fear will add to the terror threat when the fighters return home.

I'm guessing that with so many fragmented and splinter elements to the Syrian Civil War that it may present opportunities for the Syrians/Iranians to conduct pseudo operations like the Rhodesians.

I've stumbled upon this BBC documentary that actually shows footage ( at least that is what they claim ) of Iranians supporting Assad's forces.
