And you don't post pictures? How am I supposed to decide which ones to get for work? :)

NousDefionsDoc 11-11-2004 18:48

Well Military Moron is the gear review specialist. I'm just the thread provoker. And I certainly don't have any of it.

If you don't want to go check out MM's reviews (which you really, really should), you can see pictures off Crye's website at http://www.cryeprecision.com/HTLM/products/index.htm . I'm not a big smock fan, but if you are, Brian Kroon offers an SAS-styled smock in Multicam at www.dropzonetactical.com. Be advised, the company is out of Canada, so prices are listed in Monopoly money...uh, I mean Canadian Dollars. :)

RL, those pics show the pattern, but not the cut or style of Crye's uniforms.

They had me going, right up till the price.

Yikes!! Or whatever our Northern friends say, eh??

Whole lot of Monopoly money, ain't it?

New BDUs

New BDUs are called ACUs. Google it at url]http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/acu.htm[/url]. They have velcro patchs where your unit & name patches go with the rank on the front...and a mandran collar that can be worn up or folded down. They have 367 pockets, well maybe a few less.

Amazing...

How long have we been...taking the bottom pockets of the blouse and sewing them on to the sleeves?

Now they are just figuring that out.

Wasn't the Army doing it in WWII? With the Airborne uniform? Why did they ever go away from it?

militarymoron 11-14-2004 10:03

here ya go.
http://www.militarymorons.com/gear/crye1.html
the pic RL posted above was just a prototype made fot SHOT based on the MCCU's made in the multicam pattern, not the crye designed uniform.

if you scroll down the page, you'll also see the monkey stomper pouch that i eggroll made for me. i gave him my 'wish list' of requirements to hold 4 M4, 4 pistol sewn on the front, and it came out almost exactly as i wanted. after using this first prototype, i've given egg my feedback and suggestions for some changes (like making the lid adjustable), so i'm looking forward to seeing the updated version.
cheers,
MM

MM:

I like those uniforms much better than the pimp style disco suits the Army has shown. Very nice, excellent photography as well. I just hate polyester in my uniforms. Maybe they will make some in 100% cotton ripstop or poplin.

Eggroll does make some nice gear, doesn't he? Is that mage set up a four-pack+4, or an eight-pack?

Paraclete's got their cammies up on their site as well.

http://www.paracletearmor.com/BDU.htm

Got to love that capitalist running dog free market competition and how it lights a fire under everybody's ass when a competitor comes out with something.

Some of those in smoke green would probably go good down here.

militarymoron 11-15-2004 12:00

Thanks, TR.
the mag setup is 4 M4, and 4 pistol on the front. two of them side by side would give you 8 M4, 8 pistol, obviously.

i haven't seen the paraclete BDUs in person, but just from the pics, it's difficult to tell what makes them $30 more expensive per piece than the cryes ($60 more per set for a top and pants). my RAID BDUs from specwargear have more features than the paracletes. but since i haven't seen them in person, it might not be a fair assessment.

a LOT of thought went into the crye field uniform, and combat uniform. yesterday, caleb crye showed me the main features of the combat uniform, and i was very impressed with the attention to detail. it's very enlightening to hear the reasons behind the choices they made in the design.
cheers,
MM
