We live near the base of Yarnell Hill in the Bradshaws and could see the flames.
It wasn't that big of a fire until a storm front moved in and whipped it up. I was outside yesterday afternoon and the wind changed 90 to the South and very gusty...we got heavy smoke and charred debris in the air.....I suspect that's when the team got overcome. They had the procession of fallen fire fighters thru town a bit ago. It wasn't well announced but our fire dpt had the truck on US93 with the flag on the ladder and anyone about (I just happened to be there by accident) stopped driving or whatever they were doing for the procession. I've heard that not as many homes were destroyed as earlier reported...we can only hope. Yarnell is a very small community and not a 'wealthy' one at that but the locals will pull together and do what's right by them. Bad day in the desert. |
