Retired Special Forces soldier (U.S. Army Green Beret) MSG (1SG) Angel Roldan, Jr. was killed on May 16th 2013 while serving as a military advisor in Afghanistan. Angel was a true “Quiet Professional” and Warrior with over 40 years of service to his country in military, government and contractor capacities. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Angel was born in Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico on November 27th, 1950. He joined the US Army in 1969 as a Morse Code Interceptor with the Army Security Agency (ASA). He held various positions early in his career including Radio TT Team Chief, Tactical Communications Chief, Special OPS Communications Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, and First Sergeant. Angel was a Special Forces Senior Weapons Sergeant (18B), Special Forces Intelligence (18F), and Jumpmaster with Master parachutist badge, and Expert Marksman in all weapons systems. Angel spent most of his Special Forces career with the 10th SFGA (Bad Tolz, Germany) and the 7th SFGA (Ft. Bragg, NC). Angel retired in 1992 as an 18Z5P Special Forces Senior Sergeant (1st Sergeant) from the 7th SFGA. After his military service, Angel worked with multiple government and contractor organizations in senior roles including the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), State Department Worldwide Personal Protective Services (WPPS) and other tactical and intelligence agencies. As a government contractor he supported the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) for over ten years in both Iraq and Afghanistan. His influence and expertise influenced world history and contributed to freedom and democracy on 4 continents. Angel trained over 100,000 foreign soldiers throughout his career and lived by the Special Forces motto “De Oppress Liber” meaning “to free the oppressed”. Millions of families around the world enjoy freedom and democracy as a direct result of his selfless service. Angel is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Lieselotte G. Roldan (Stafford, VA). Angel had three children, His son Matthias P. Roldan and spouse Kristi C. Roldan (Charleston, SC), his son Angel Richard Roldan and spouse Val S. Roldan (Fredericksburg, VA), and his daughter Samantha G. Roldan (Stafford, VA). He has five grandchildren (Scotty Trail, Donavan Grey, Jenna Grey, Alyssa Roldan and Kassel Roldan). |
