Midnite Moon has done me right. I like the cranberry stuff bit the apple and raspberry are both pretty good.

+1, midnight moon is by far the better of the commercial moonshines (apple is good).

This brings back bad memories..... while living in North Carolina I sampled some moonshine, once. I'm just glad there was no open flames around when they opened the bottle.

Popcorn Sutton's is my favorite legal shine to date. Georgia Moon is decent. However, if someone is on a budget and plans to use it as a base and mix it, then it's great. As far as the flavored variety, I've tried Sloonshine's peach and didn't care for the super sugary aftertaste. I'm going to have to try some of Junior Johnson's Midnight Moon, soon.

If you are ever near Gatlinburg, TN, this place makes some pretty tasty moonshine:

I still have a pint Mason jar leftover from the Christmas party. Home brew, but surprisingly smooth.
I keep it to feed to the Yankee touristas.. :D

While in Phase II(Commo) up in Uwharrie, we traded a case of C-Rats for a couple of jars of a clear, fiery liquid. IIRC, we didn't make commo for 3 days.

Georgia Moon is good off the shelf stuff.

That is when the local sources get busted

A bit off topic.. is it legal to produce your own moonshine. She like home brew beer??

State laws very but mostly no unless you get a tax stamp...something to do with alcohol content, that is why you can make beer and wine at home.

bubba 04-11-2013 19:24

Not in any state that I am aware of. Beer and wine is only allowed in certain states for small amounts for personal use only and distilled spirits are not allowed period.

Legal 'shine ain't 'shine, it's just white liquor. Most legal shines are made with gas heat not wood; which alters the flavor, and make it seem hotter and harsher.

Just one hillbilly's simple opinion.

Man, that stuff is pure gasoline. I think the reason it is so popular right now is because there's this mystique attached to it and it is "illicit." Last Bladeshow, I watched that stuff get right on top of some people, and then they suffered gravely for it the next day.

True. The legal "moonshine" has a much lower alcohol content. Like DJ said, real shine is liquid sledgehammer.
