I still remember my first drive in movie. My dad was stationed at Macdill and he and mom loaded up all four of us, in our pjs, into the VW bus and took us to go see Star Wars when it first came out. Great memory!!

The Sand Pebbles (1966)

I couldn't begin to remember all of the movies I've seen at the drive in. For my parents it was affordable entertainment as they could load me and my sisters in the station wagon and watch a double feature for a few dollars.

I remember hanging out on the playground at the base of the screen with friends from school who's parents used to go to the movies at the same time or let them come with us.

Me,Maggie,and our 4 kids(in pj's)worth every bit of the $2 per car load every weekend. ;)

The ones in Fayetteville were and if I remember correctly all of them were on Bragg Blvd:

Midway
Fox
Boulevard
Moonlite
Sky-Vue
Fort 1-2-3

It was the Fox 1-2-3... the Fort Drive-in was on the other side of the Blvd. Good memory, you named them all!!!

We still have a drive-in. It still works and has 4 screens. I've been in the process of restoring my grandfathers old Chevy C10 pickup. Last weekend I hired a sitter and took my wife on a date (praying the truck wouldn't break down before we made it to the big screen). We cancelled cable TV years ago at our house, so this was kind of a treat. Guess it's the simple things in life...

I was stationed in Hawaii from 1985 - 1989 and me and the wife would go the drive-in located in Pearl City every Friday night. It was great. Two movies for $5. We still talk about those days now.

I think it has gone the way of the "flea market" these days.

I believe the one out in Albemarle, NC is still open.

About a two hour drive from N Fayetteville.

There were a few in the NW Chicago suburb,however in the late 70's they started to disappear......... One especially started showing "Porn",which could be seen outside the drive-in very easily....... They told them to put a 12 ft high fence in order to continue showing,they refused ,went to court,lost and that was the last one to bite the dust.......... :(:eek::p

The one outside of Ft. Campbell was XXX in the mid 70's. At least that is what someone told me :rolleyes:. I was in TN. in early May and came across a couple of active drive-ins between Nashville and Memphis.

Check this one out the next time you drive through Memphis. However, I hate to burst any bubbles...the only XXX you'll ever see there would be if they played a Vin Diesel re-run of the movie bearing the same name. :D
