Chicago school bans some lunches brought from home
 

What in the heck are we doing in our schools? Since when has it become the governments job to tell me what to feed my kids? :mad:

School lunch is a federal cash cow. The more kids you get eating lunch the more you can get on the full or reduced price program.

Yeah, that made it into the article as well.

The government is here to help us...
...that is why we should raise taxes on the evil stingy rich people.

Only bad parents would dare give their kids a PBJ and a banana when they could pay the school for one of those nutritious 'pizza disks'

One of the "hot new" restaurants in Scottsdale, AZ volunteered to provide lunch for a local elementary school - providing good food made from fresh local vegetables, etc. The staff loved it, the kids reallllly loved it, the district lunch "poobahs" hated it. It ain't about good food, it is about power, farm subsidies, and the USDA.

Short Round's School
 

The Kids at Short Round's School really love Chick-Fil-A day. Sign up and pay in the morning and get a Hot Chicken Sandwich for lunch from Chick-Fil-A. Then again it's a private school.

Private or Public it's the rare child that eats the healthy items in a school lunch.

I go a couple of times a month to eat with Short Round (Taco Bell or Mickie D's) and get a good look at the school lunch. Looks pretty healthy with a good mix of veggies and fruit to go with the main meal. Most of the kids just push the stuff on their tray around untill lunch is over and then they dump it.

Which reminds me - it's getting to be the end of the school year. How many of you with kids in K-5 failed to find time to go eat lunch with them at least once this year.

FWIW, "Fed cash cow" or not, we are headed down a long dark road when the gub'ment is telling us we can't feed our kids PBJ & 'Nanas'...
If they knew that my mom was feeding her three sons grilled cheese, hotdogs, pbj's, fried bologna and potatoes every day they'd locked her up.
Not too mention the free meal at school K - 12. If not for the football coaching staff I'd been one skinny O-tackle... :lifter

Chicago,that toddling town!.........:eek: Went to school there from K all the way to College(Chicago Technical College) and it was and I'm positive it still is controlled by graft........:rolleyes: Everything is done,especially school lunches by who you know and how much your willing to pay to get the contract..........:rolleyes: Believe me when I say I know from my relatives that worked for the city that's the only way it operates......;)

This is a photo of a sample lunch I guess. I bet after the kid finished eating, the carrots and the item to the right will be left alone. The tater tots will be gone though.

When I was 9 yrs old , the lunch consisted of pizza ( square ), choice of milk ( i bet that goes well with pizza ), and some string beans/carrots that were left alone by every kid there including myself.

Spot on Big Teddy. This city is getting more ridiculous by the day. If I had kids I'd pull 'em out and move to the 'burbs.

I am sure once Rahm Emanuel takes office in May that he will return honesty, honor and dignity to the Chicago Mayors office.
Good things are in store for Chicago; no crisis will be ignored.

Good times are coming

Private school so my wife makes the kids' lunches everyday.
We're also responsible for "snack" for the whole school several times per year.

There's a family lunch held every Thanksgiving and at year's end.
The kids get to serve the Thanksgiving meal to the adults.

All of mine are now out of the K-5 system now...but I still go and eat with my wife who's a 1st grade teacher at her school a couple of times a month. Does that count?

I go every Friday unless something BIG comes up. I do it because all the young teachers think I'm hot for being a good dad. ;) haha

The kids really enjoy it and are slightly upset if I don't get to make it. I think everyone should try and get by at least once a semester.
