One of the saddest things about this is that the suspect is believed to be a student of the school as it often times is. Prayers out to the students.

"...............A source confirmed that the suspect and at least one of the victims were students...................."

And from FOX - confirmed it was another Palin / Tee Party right winger who listens to talk radio.

Now lets not jump to any conclusions about the individual, his motives or what caused him to do this.

Just an accident

No worries - just an accident.

Eveybody cares a gun in the backpack o school these days - so just an accident.

Sohei 01-18-2011 14:18

Interesting article. It was an accident but a teacher is "credited with talking the suspect into cooperating with the police". Also, the gun allegedly fell out of the back pack and shot multiple victims. Maybe a "through and through" shot. Just thinking out loud.

J8127 01-18-2011 14:49

Guns do not fall out of backpacks and shoot multiple people.

I bought 10 more pmags last night, maybe I should make it 100.

x SF med 01-18-2011 15:24

Ok, the alleged gun allegedly was pulled by the alleged force of gravity from a nylon shoulder carried book receptical by a youth, who may or may not be a student, when it fired accidentally multiple times, at an institurion of learning in a state/city where the carry of weapons, even by those of legal age, is restricted severely...

Nobody else sees a little disparity between reality and media reports here? Must just be me that sees the bullshit flag thrown on this play...

GARDENA, Calif. (KTLA) -- Gardena Police say two students wounded in a shooting at a high school were hit by one bullet that was fired when a gun in a backpack apparently went off by accident.

The shooting was reported at Gardena High School in the 1300 block of West 182nd Street around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

School District spokesman Robert Alaniz says a student brought a gun to school in his backpack, which fell onto the ground and apparently discharged.

One bullet discharged, striking 2 students.

A 15-year-old girl was hit in the face.

She is in critical condition. And in reportedly undergoing surgery.

A 15-year-old boy shot in the neck.

The wound is described as a through and through. He is in stable condition.

Deputy Chief Patrick Gannon says the student who brought the gun to school said he was sorry after it went off, and a teacher in the classroom said it appeared to be an accident.

The student with the gun ran to another room and police took him into custody.

Police with guns drawn surrounded a classroom as students walked outside with their hands in the air.

One young man was then placed on the ground and handcuffed.

A teacher is being credited with talking to the student inside a classroom and convincing him to cooperate with police.

LOS ANGELES (AP) – A gun in a 10th-grader's backpack accidentally discharged when he dropped the bag, wounding two students at a Los Angeles high school, the campus principal said.

Gardena High School Principal Rudy Mendoza said the student dropped the bag as he walked between classes at midmorning. The boy who brought the gun was apprehended, Mendoza told The Associated Press.

Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Jamie Moore said two victims were transported to a hospital, one in serious and one in critical condition.

Just another day

My warehouse is about two blocks from the school. Sadly, if the gun was discharged one block off campus it would be a none story outside of the local area.

Hopefully the kids have a full recovery.

Any problems with break-ins?
The breathless local TV coverage all morning assumed it was another mass shooting. I had co-workers telling me that six students had been shot.
We had a young correctional officer accept a promotion to Gardena PD as a patrol officer. He lasted a week, and came pleading for his old job back. It’s a rough place, especially on graveyard shift. And as bad as Gardena might be, there’s worse nearby.

My brother was carjacked near there about six years ago. He was shot 4 times. He's doing well these days.

I'll never live there again...jd

Sounds like a well-spoken, good kid. Hope he makes a full recovery.

I don't know the circumstances around him being locked in the room, but I suspect it might be due to a shooting under unclear circumstances at the school and the need for more urgent medical attention for the girl with the head wound. They may have secured him in the room for safety while securing the school and assessing/triaging other casualting in case the shooting was not accidental.

I'm not in favor of suing the school, but I am also not familiar with the reported law mandating thorough searches of all students. How about a lawsuit against the boy and his family for bringing/allowing him to bring a firearm to school?

Oh yeah - the gun-toting boy and his family's pockets probably aren't deep enough.
